Hello everyone! We hope you are having a great month of September!
Sunnyside friends are having a wonderful time doing the variety of activities they do in class and as a school. We would like to share with you some of the anecdotes our teachers have written to the parents this week.
Before starting the art activity, we once again looked at sharks in the encyclopedia. We focused on the shark’s big mouth and numerous teeth, and I mentioned how sharks can grow new teeth if they lose any. After this, the children added shark teeth and water/waves to their artwork. It was interesting to see their individuality come through in how they placed the waves and teeth, despite working on the same theme.
Today we continued our discussion about animals. This time we classified them based on their diet. Like Herbivores, Carnivores and Omnivores. They easily got the concept. Since these are big words, it was a little hard for them to remember the words consistenly. After the discussion, we had picture sorting activity again and this time the animals must be sorted based on their diets. They did an incredible job helping and discuss it with each other.
After our snack, we spent some time focusing on science, by talking about why some things will float in water and some things will sink. We guessed whether a variety of materials would float if dropped into water, then tried it out to see if we were correct. We learned that some items would either float or sink depending on their shape and whether they could hold air pockets.
Today’s music class, we learned two new rests, the ‘half rest’ and ‘whole rest’. The children had a chance to create their own measures and combine notes and rests which everyone tried to follow.
We ended this short week making our handmade clay bowls using our mighty hands and creative imagination!
