We’re excited to give you a peek into life at Sunnyside! Each day, our amazing teachers capture all the fun, learning, and special moments happening in our classroom through class journals.

We thought it would be great to share these with you—so you can see all the wonderful things we’re up to! This time, we will share our Winter School stories! 🙂

Day 1

Today, we explored the clothing we wear in winter. We learned that not only food and people help keep us warm and cozy, but the clothes we wear do too!
Our vocabulary words for the day were hat, scarf, boots, and mittens.

During art time, the children made their own hat ornaments for their trees at home. They created hats using yarn or felt, and each one was so colorful and unique.

Day 2

Today, we talked about fuzzy animals that have warm fur to help them stay cozy in the winter. We learned that bears sleep during the winter, and that some foxes change their fur to white to stay camouflaged in the snow.
Our vocabulary words for the day were bear, fox, rabbit, and hedgehog.

In the afternoon, the fun continued! One group played an Animal Fruit Basket game, where the children stood up and found a new chair until only one winner remained. In another room, the children enjoyed a lively game of Penguin Shuffle, carefully shuffling their feet with their “eggs” balanced on them and trying not to drop.

Day 3

Today, we talked about the foods we eat that help us feel warm and cozy during the winter. We learned that some people enjoy eating bread dipped in soup for a yummy, warming meal.

Our vocabulary words for the day were cocoa, soup, tea, and bread.

In the afternoon, the fun continued! One group played Winter Café, where the children took turns selling and buying sweets and hot cocoa. In another room, the children enjoyed making their own cocoa-scented play dough. They had so much fun!

Day 4

Today, we talked about winter fun and the activities people enjoy during the winter. We learned that some people go ice skating or skiing for fun during this season.
Our vocabulary words for the day were snow, ice, sleigh, and snowman.

During art time, the children made their own egg carton Christmas trees using egg cartons, markers, colorful gems, and bows. They turned out so cute!

Day 5

Today, we talked about the different things that make us feel warm and cozy. We learned that hugs from our friends and family make us feel warm all over.
Our vocabulary words for the day were hug, family, blanket, and love.

During art time, the children made their own wreaths using their handprints. They decorated them beautifully with pom-poms, gems, and markers.
